Actually not that predictable; it was about time I see you post more of him. I like the way you did the strokes here, it kinda gives this a nightmarish feel (mostly on the background)

I studied how other artists placed their brushstrokes and tried it myself. It takes time to really learn it because you also need to be comfortable with your painting progress. If you keep making errors and nit picking you'll end up overworking the painting, thus losing that loose painted feel.

Hmm... I do that, but I just get caught up with said nitpicking and then I just lose it and scrap the whole thing.
